Health Alert:
Elevated Pulse Pressure Associated with Higher Mortality Risk.
Pulse pressure is the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure and reflects both the force generated by the heart with each heartbeat and the stiffness of the arteries. A recent study found that higher pulse pressure was significantly associated with greater risks of cardiometabolic disease progression and death, suggesting it may be an important marker for identifying people at increased risk.

Eating More Produce May Mean Better Metabolic Health.
Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions—including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess belly fat, and unhealthy cholesterol levels—that increase the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Researchers found that every additional 100 grams of fruit and 200 grams of vegetables eaten daily were associated with about a 10% lower likelihood of metabolic syndrome.

Sit Less, Move More!
Using data from the UK Biobank study, researchers found that replacing 15 minutes of daily sitting with 15 minutes of movement was associated with a 2% lower risk of several cancers linked to physical inactivity, including breast, colon, lung, uterine, and rectal cancers.

Chiropractic:
Shoulder, Elbow, or Wrist Pain May Warrant a Spine Evaluation.
In a case series of three patients with spinal dysfunction and upper extremity pain that did not correspond with typical pain referral patterns from the spine, researchers found that spinal manipulation and mobilization—manual therapy techniques commonly used by chiropractors—were associated with clinically significant improvements in arm pain and disability. The findings suggest clinicians should include the spine when evaluating patients with shoulder, elbow, and wrist pain.

Improving Insulin Sensitivity May Help Lower Dementia Risk.
Insulin sensitivity is the body's ability to respond efficiently to insulin, allowing glucose to move from the bloodstream into cells for energy. An analysis of data from the UK Biobank study found that high insulin sensitivity is associated with up to a 33% lower risk of dementia. The findings suggest insulin sensitivity may be a modifiable target for dementia prevention.

Healthy Habits Can Delay the Onset of Type 2 Diabetes.
Following an analysis of data from more than 250,000 adults, researchers found the combination of never smoking and achieving recommended levels of physical activity was associated with about a one-third lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes and a later age of onset among those who did develop the condition.
