Subacromial pain syndrome is shoulder pain caused by irritation or compression of the structures (such as tendons and bursa) within the subacromial space, typically during arm elevation or overhead movement. A meta-analysis of data from seven randomized clinical trials found that including manual therapies—such as chiropractic spinal manipulation—applied to the thoracic spine in a multimodal treatment approach can result in greater improvements with respect to pain, disability, range of motion, quality of life, and satisfaction with care.

An analysis of data from the Danish National Birth Cohort study revealed that frequent pain at age eleven was associated with a 2.4-times increased risk of attempted suicide by age 18. Furthermore, chronic pain in three or more body sites appeared to nearly triple this risk!
