Health Alert:
Pollutant Linked to Anxiety.
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a group of over 100 different chemicals formed by the incomplete burning of organic materials such as coal, oil, gas, wood, garbage, and tobacco. Following an analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, researchers report that increased exposure to these chemicals is associated with an elevated risk of anxiety disorders.

Diet:
Gut Microbiota Linked to Disordered Eating.
Yo-yo dieting is a pattern of repeated weight loss and regain, typically resulting from cycles of restrictive dieting followed by overeating or returning to previous eating habits. In a recent animal study, researchers observed that yo-yo dieting changes the composition of bacteria in the gut microbiome, influencing the areas of the brain focused on reward and cravings, which may manifest as binge eating and other eating disorders.

Exercise:
Novel Exercise Offers Relief for Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients.
Blood flow restricted resistance training is a form of exercise that involves applying pressure to a limb using a cuff or band to partially restrict blood flow while lifting lighter weights, resulting in muscle growth and strength gains comparable to high-intensity training. A recent clinical trial found that patients with rheumatoid arthritis who engaged in this form of exercise not only found it enjoyable, but they also experienced significant improvements with respect to strength, mobility, and pain.

Gut Bacteria May Influence Suicide Risk.
A recent literature review found evidence to support microbial dysbiosis in the oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract, and other mucosal tissues as a potential risk factor for suicidal behavior. The findings suggest that dietary interventions may have a role in treatment for individuals at elevated suicide risk.

Timely Introduction of Peanuts and Eggs Reduces Allergy Risks.
The Kids Research Institute Australia reports that exposing babies to peanut butter and eggs at around six months of age reduces the rate of egg allergies from 12% to 3% and peanut allergies from 6% to 1%. The findings suggest that pediatric dietary guidelines need amending to reduce the risk of food allergies in children.
