Metabolic Syndrome Worsens Ischemic Stroke Outcomes.
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions—obesity, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, impaired metabolic function, and excessive waist circumference—that occur together and elevate the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. A literature review found that not only is metabolic syndrome associated with an elevated risk of ischemic stroke, but the more metabolic risk factors a person has, the greater their risk for both stroke as well as poor stroke outcomes.

MIND Diet May Lower Dementia Risk.
The Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay (MIND) diet is an eating pattern that is intended to slow or delay the neurodegenerative decline observed in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. A study that included nearly 93,000 middle-aged and older adults found that those who improved their adherence to the MIND diet over a decade’s time had a 25% lower risk of dementia.

Researchers at University College London report personality traits can affect how enjoyable a form of exercise is, which influences the chances they’ll stick with it. For example, the research team observed that extroverts favor intense group workouts and people with high neuroticism traits prefer working out alone with breaks.

A meta-analysis of 17 studies found that boys and girls exposed to emotional maltreatment early in life are more likely to experience diminished body awareness, which increases their risk for anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and somatoform disorders.
